Archive of Fishery Preservation

Project Location: Ma Wan Chung, Hong Kong

Project Type: Architecture, The Chinese University of Hong Kong

Ma Wan Chung has a profound history in fishery, which deeply roots into the lifestyle and culture of the place. Due to rapid infrastructural development and tourism in the district, the fishery industry in Ma Wan Chung has been ignored and isolated. Without new generations to succeed, fishery knowledge and techniques would be lost.

As a hub for knowledge, the proposed archive is an opportunity to pass on fishery knowledge and techniques to the mass public and educate them through the real life learning experience. The local fishery process mainly consists of 3 activities depending on different tidal situations, namely clam digging, fish netting and salted fish production.
